Hum keh thehrey ajnabi itni madaaraatoun ke baad
Phir banain ge aashna kitni mulaaqaatoun ke baad
Kab nazar mein aaye gi be-daagh sabzay ki bahaar
Khoon ke dhabbay dhulain ge kitni barsaatoun ke baad
Dil tou chaha per shikast-e-dil ne mohlat hi na di
Kuch gilay shikway bhi ker letey manaajaatoun ke baad
Thay bohat be-dard lamhay khatam-e-dard-e-ishq ke
Thien bohat be-meher subhain meherbaa'n raatoun ke baad
Un se jo kehney gaye thay Faiz jaa'n sadqa kiey
Ankahi hi reh gayi woh baat sab baatoun ke baad

Aisi thandi aahoun aur chehrey ke nakhushgawaar tasuraat ki wajah jaan sakta houn?
Faiz wrote this when he was sent to Bangladesh as a part of a delegation, after the Fall of Dhaka. Love the way how he used an excellent and superior form of romanticism to show his feelings about a historically tragic incident.
Agreed.
I was just thinking how the beauty of poetry lies in how a single piece is capable of holding so many interpretations, so many meanings.
All ways of perceiving it are right. (However, some are just more right than the others... *smiles*).
